About the Artist:

Amy grew up in Meriden, Connecticut the youngest of 3 daughters to John and Sue. At an early age was exposed to the arts through a family rich with artistic talent. Her uncle Gordon and grandmother Florence took her to many New York museums, plays and ballets which gave her a creative foundation at the age of 6. In high school she revisited the Museum of Modern Art in New York where she fell in love with Dali for the first time. She started painting using acrylic after that in the surrealistic style. In college her father, a great influence in her life, persuaded her to major in Graphic Communications so she wouldn’t starve and minor in fine arts. At Franklin Pierce College (now Franklin Pierce University) in Rindge, New Hampshire she got her Bachelor degree in Graphic Communications. After graduating in 1993 she got a job at Business Card Express in the Graphic Department and has been working there ever since. And in 2009 started her own company OC Design for printing and design services. She created and maintains her own website.

After the birth of her son in 2007 Amy’s art changed from surreal to abstract. Painting to Amy is a meditative process in which she lets things just come and not forcing the creative process. Pulling from her love of nature and the philosophy of Buddhism the art created today empathizes her view of life which is both in color and in black and white at the same time. Her medium had also changed from acrylic to watercolor, gouache and ink. The paintings demonstrate the fluid nature of life with its use of swirls and lines. The use of gold, silver, and iridescent powder creates a unique painting under different types of lighting and where the viewer is standing.

Amy had been hesitant to describe the meaning of each painting. Since each painting is one of a sensory perspective, the only hint of what was in the artist’s mind while the painting was created is the name of the painting. Each painting hopes to inspire a recall of a memory or thought from the viewer pulling from their own personal experiences. In doing so the artist leaves the meaning of each painting up to the viewer. She hopes to continue in this style of painting for a long time to come.
